Tagalys Search Accuracy is a configuration feature that controls which product attributes and tag values are included in the search index. When a shopper types a query, Tagalys matches it against the attributes marked as searchable for each product. Search Accuracy is where you decide which attributes those are. If an attribute is pulling in irrelevant products across multiple queries, removing it here fixes every affected query at once, without touching your product catalogue or adjusting individual search results one at a time.
It usually happens because a tag or attribute on the product contains a word that overlaps with the search query, even though the product itself is not relevant. A combined category tag like "Trousers and Skirts" being marked as searchable means any product in that category appears when a shopper searches for either word. The search engine is matching correctly based on what it has been told to look at. Search Accuracy is where you tell it to stop looking at the wrong things.
Tagalys includes a Search Analyser within the search demo. Type any query, find a product in the results that should not be there, and click the analyse icon on that product tile. You will see exactly which attribute or tag value caused the match. This tells you precisely what to change in Search Accuracy, with no guesswork involved.
Search Accuracy works at the index level. Removing an attribute here affects every query in your store that was matching products through it, all at once. It is the right fix when a tag is causing false positives across many different searches. Refine Search Results works at the individual query level. You keep your index as is but exclude specific words from a single search result. It is the right fix when one particular query is returning the wrong product type and you do not want to make a broader index change. If the same issue is appearing across ten different search queries, fix it in Search Accuracy. If it is isolated to one query, use Refine Search Results.
Yes, intentionally. Because it works at the index level, removing an attribute affects every query that was previously matching products through it. This is what makes it powerful for fixing widespread false positives, but it also means changes should be made deliberately. Always use the Search Analyser first to confirm exactly which attribute is causing the problem before making a change.
Changes to Search Accuracy reflect after a minimum of 30 minutes, or when the Tagalys search index next updates. Once the sync is complete, corrected results are visible on your storefront automatically. No manual refresh needed.
Yes. Search Accuracy works in both directions. You can mark attributes as searchable if you want Tagalys to match products against them, or remove attributes that are causing noise in results. For example, if you want shoppers to find products by searching "linen" or "cotton," you would add fabric as a searchable attribute. If a collection grouping tag is causing cross-category matches, you would remove it.
As early as possible, ideally during onboarding. Search Accuracy is the foundation everything else in Tagalys Search sits on. Merchandised Search, Search Boost, and Refine Search Results all work with the results that Search Accuracy defines. If the index is pulling in the wrong products, those tools are working from an inaccurate starting point. Getting Search Accuracy right first means every other search feature performs better from day one.
